Compressor: the compressor is simply a pump and can be either of variable or positive displacement; it carriers both refrigerant and oil through the A/C system. The compressor has two purposes, one is to create a low-pressure condition at the compressor inlet, and the second function is to compress the low-pressure refrigerant vapour into a high-pressure vapour.
