Evaporator: the refrigerant flowing though the evaporator coil is significantly colder than the cabin air passing over the evaporator causing heat transfer from the air to the cold refrigerant. This is the primary function of the evaporator- to absorb cabin heat. Its secondary function is to dehumidify the air. As the air passes through the evaporator the water vapour component of the air (humidity) condenses onto the fins and tubes, thus dehumidifying the air.
